THATCH

‘Past Modern’

The Farrier lived besides their forge, the alpine Farmer above their cattle and the Miller beside the mill. Industry forced populations in to cities, technology enabled us to leave. The world had changed. Our clients are in far away cities and working day is time zones.

In the ‘so called creative industries’ the boundaries blur between work and home, inspiration and life, calmness and creativity, collaboration and focus. Homes become mood boards, the studio become homes. Servicing an expensive space in a premium location no longer has the allure it had 20 years ago especially when clients rarely visit. ‘Thatch’ defines a unique work life that evolved in response to modern times. The spaces form a tapestry of creativity, somewhere between inspiration, the hotels, books, the dining experiences and our international life. Renovating and being custodians of 400 year old property, formally a blacksmiths, in a picturesque hamlet in rural Suffolk had its own unique challenges. The concept was to create a studio cottage experience with the contrast of a heritage building but clean lines of modern furniture and details to provide an visual balance of calmness. All with built in modernity such digital control, Wifi mesh, eco energy saving and underfloor heating. From traditional building techniques, listed regulations, breathable paints and renders, regional materials including lime wash, thatch roofing and landscaping. By their nature, eco-friendly, sustainable, built by actual craftsmen and on a ‘rural’ clock. The hard-won garden captures the spirit of Suffolk with a contemporary country feel with olive trees, summerhouse, scented foxgloves, climbing wisteria, stream and iconic Nobilis bay trees Thatch is calming yet creative, a place to live and work, a place to entertaining and a backdrop for our brand. ‘The home should be the treasure chest of living’ LE CORBUSIER
